PSA: hold back on updating your iPhone X to iOS 11.1.1

attempted iphone x update today via usb using itunes on macbook pro 2017.

phone rebooted recovery, , despite numerous attempts, refused restore, restarting apple logo + progress bar came up.

itunes returned informative "an unknown error has occured (9)".

tried different usb ports, lightning cables, , restarted macbook. still wouldn't work.

tried deleting ipsw, redownloading, still wouldn't work.

tried system update, nothing.

did googling. found out not person issue (https://www.reddit.com/r/apple/comments/7c33ya/iphone_x_installed_ios_1111_put_in_recovery_mode/) found recommendations 'hardware issue', proceeded book appointment genius bar. nothing available until end-of-wednesday. awesome.

went home , tried 1 last time on hackintosh desktop pc, , miraculously worked.

if had failed again without phone 4 days, until genius bar appointment, , chances of same-day replacement slim.

please hold on updating phone. there chance happens too, , might not lucky second mac works on.

genius bar appointment, might not able replacement same-day, because new handset.

 

crap updated , went fine.
