have been mac user 15-16 years, but
move desktop computer. have 12" macbook, 10.5 ipad pro, , iphone x. actual important work quickbooks/excel. otherwise normal everyday computing (web, documents, pdf, etc). have kids have large photo/home video collection. don't editing, 4k tv , gopro sure nice piece 4k clips movies.
have been mac user 15-16 years, open switching pc. either has windows version or cloud based.
heres dilemma...i want experience , use vr. understand top end imacs run vr games. want run vr in computer well, not barely scraping if makes sense. makes pretty expensive imac, , i'm not sure run vr great (but don't know technical side).
if im going spend $3000+ on imac may not @ vr better off buying pc gaming computer? seems me pretty insane computer similar price pay imac.
boils down should buy nice imac , hope vr well? or should nice pc benefits of vr , learn use windows few other programs need. think between ipad , iphone can things, not of business stuff. have suggestions or opinions on idea? or pc/mac might want at? said , done id stay around $3000 $4000 max including display if go pc route.
my knowledge on vr limited, disclaimer. if primary goal vr, imho pc wayyyyyy better choice money.
if budget $3,000-$4,000, go route of custom pc, using along lines of core i7-7700k or higher, nvidia 1080 ti, , liquid cooling.
alternatively, if looking pre-built, microcenter powerspec line pretty solid offering imo. under $2k, this, upgrade ram, , reasonably monitor (think 27-32-inch 1080p or qhd refresh rate). can find sales on in-house powerspec line, point buying completed version less cost of building yourself.

imac 7700k, equal ram, , 580 gpu $2,800, , it's gpu arguably far cry 1080ti.
