installing HS on old MacBook, goes through install, restarts, brings up install again


if quit install app says theres no system on hard drive start from, doesnt give errors. says installing, restarts , ground hog day. id guess 2010 or 2011 macbook cant check cant start up.

advice appreciated
 

how installing?
running downloaded installer app?
reinstalling macos recovery system? (booting command-r)?
reinstalling internet recovery (booting option-command-r, shows rotating globe, not apple icon during boot)
or (best way) booting installer bootable external drive or usb flash drive?

if installing external drive, have tried erasing internal hard drive first, using disk utility?

last question: internal drive older, spinning hard drive, or have ssd installed? (hs not match older hard drive. ssd recommended.)

com.apple.DiskManagement.disenter error -119930878

here's odd one! 1 of our 2015 macbook air notebooks in office crashed , became unbootable after user clicked high sierra upgrade sierra on it. tried sorts of things working again, including both internet recovery , regular recovery. each time, partially install high sierra , stop error saying, "macos not installed on computer", followed specific error code mentioned in message subject line. have identically configured air (8gb ram, 512gb ssd, core i7) upgraded sierra high sierra without problems @ all, should work! thing able problem machine installing sierra usb thumb drive. did that, of user's data accessible again (nothing lost, thankfully!) , working normally. tried running high sierra upgrade again fresh app store download, hoping original issue stupid user powering computer off in middle of upgrade process. nope! exact same error , resulting unbootable machine. computer passes apple hardware tests flying colors , seems fine
