mac pro 5,1 1 external drive hooked usb 3.0 port. energy saver settings puts computer , display sleep after 10 minutes; hard drives sleep when possible; , wake network access.
know has been discussed in previous macoss, solution eject disk before walking away computer or changing energy saver settings hard drives never go sleep?
it's annoying getting message , know can damage drive on time.
that energy setting applicable internal hdd, not external hdd. external hdd, need simple tool (e.g. keep drive spinning) avoid disk sleep.
yes, there no work around eject hard drive before "the machine sleep" (not before leave computer). if don't want (or cannot) manually, can use "jettison" automatically achieve need.
anyway, afaik, due macos cut pcie slot power during sleep. it's impossible card maintain connection external hdd. either let eject before sleep. or let machine never sleep.
