2010 27' iMac won't recognize Internal HDD after 10.13 install.

we have 2010 imac wouldn't update to el capitan decided pass , make usb high sierra , install. booted usb , installed , erased hhd. chose hdd erased. seemed work towards end reboot , flashing fold "?" popped up. tried recovery, disk utility, firewired 2 macs, safe mode, holding down buttons @ start, internet recovery, etc... did ton of searching on web can't help.

able install external hhd , boots there doesn't see internal @ all. won't recognize hdd. guess bad install. how can recognize hdd? there free program see internal drive , repair? thanks.

 

the internal hdd doesn't show in disk utility sidebar? guess drive has failed. being 7-year-old drive possibility of failure isn't unlikely @ point, , in fact of 2010 imacs in particular known ship high-failure-rate drives.

owner of 27" 2010 imac myself, installed ssd in place of original hdd, , can tell upgrade worth it. having ssd makes difference performance on newer versions of os x.
