Diagnose Kernel Task High CPU Usage


is there way check causing high kernel task cpu usage. times, when not doing anything, kernel task cpu usage jump 40+%. mbp starts feeling sluggish - i.e. animations choppy, moving cursor lags, , feels slower. happened me 5 minutes ago. mbp asleep, came , woke up, had 2 tabs of safari , powerpoint open in background, , noticed sluggish/laggy. checked activity monitor cpu usage , saw kernel task on 40% , windowserver @ 20%...

i'm wondering if there software can let me see root cause of kernel task usage is. feel i'm on wild goose chase trying figure out. i'd avoid reformatting mbp see if potentially goes away...lol

com.apple.DiskManagement.disenter error -119930878

here's odd one! 1 of our 2015 macbook air notebooks in office crashed , became unbootable after user clicked high sierra upgrade sierra on it. tried sorts of things working again, including both internet recovery , regular recovery. each time, partially install high sierra , stop error saying, "macos not installed on computer", followed specific error code mentioned in message subject line. have identically configured air (8gb ram, 512gb ssd, core i7) upgraded sierra high sierra without problems @ all, should work! thing able problem machine installing sierra usb thumb drive. did that, of user's data accessible again (nothing lost, thankfully!) , working normally. tried running high sierra upgrade again fresh app store download, hoping original issue stupid user powering computer off in middle of upgrade process. nope! exact same error , resulting unbootable machine. computer passes apple hardware tests flying colors , seems fine
