WhatsApp to Pull Support for Older iPhones From Next Year

whatsapp announced on thursday mobile app stop working on older smartphones next year, concentrates on developing new features popular messaging platform.

decision means january 1, 2018, whatsapp pull support app on iphone 3gs , older models, iphones running ios 6 , earlier. list of unsupported phones includes android 2.1 , 2.2, blackberry os, , windows phone 7.

explaining reason move, whatsapp said when founded in 2009, mobile landscape different.

"about 70 percent of smartphones sold @ time had operating systems offered blackberry , nokia," company said. "mobile operating systems offered google, apple , microsoft - account 99.5 percent of sales today - on less 25 percent of mobile devices sold @ time."

apple's iphone 3gs released in june 2009, while ios 6 released on september 19, 2012, followed ios 7 in 2013. according apteligent research, less 0.04 percent of iphone users using ios 6. apple's recent mobile os, ios 11, released on september 19, 2017, , accounts on 75 percent of active ios users.
