so macbook turn off half way through start screen , ran disk utility->first aid , got error 8, cannot complete failure code. went reinstall osx off recovery screen , when clicked on hd install got following message...
"this disk has s.m.a.r.t. errors. disk has hardware problem can't repaired. up of data possible , replace disk."
mean hd has failed , gone?
if so, how whatever had left if can't desktop?
btw. running on el capitan if recall correctly.
advice that, if don't have other backups, stop doing anything affected disk. stop using completely. not try , boot recovery on physical disk.
in shoes make usb bootable volume containing backup tool ccc, , booted this, clone whatever onto external disk. may need invoke of friend make bootable usb volume on mac. if ccc stalls doing because of errors failing disk, may have drag , drop can failing disk external.
replace internal disk, reinstall macos , use setup assistant on first boot migrate clone.
