[Rant] Honduran Election

yes, shocking isn't this? thread that's not european or related. brushed off many issue not relate or remotely affect you.

me, being honduran american, issue , big 1 might add. no, wasn't born in us, raised adult life thru today here in south.

quick recap:

honduras went general elections past sunday (nov.26) , given 9 choices in political candidates president. 1 of these candidates current center-right (or rather more right center) current president of country. constitutional law, no president can reelected once term up. means 4 years , done. however, guy called juan orlando hernandez has moved influences in branches of government (from supreme court, military legislative) become candidate "legally".

fast forward now, people went polling centers , voted strong showing (i don't have latest participation figure, it's above 65% last official records). since honduras 3rd world country, tracking votes paramount, "lost" ballot boxes can difference between slight delay or fraud (ballot stuffing). in order achieve 0 fraud post ballot counting, political parties agreed following system:

1. once ballots polling table/area counted, registar form filled , signed every political party rep on table/area
2. registar form scanned , sent amazon web services server, , each party given physical copy of form record keeping.
3. registar e-forms pushed american state organization, state dept, each political party server, eu election comittee , honduran election officials.

hence, once ballots counted fraud heavily detered. quick note, candidate mayority votes win, if 1 vote.

let's move forward why election important. people upset because of following:

1. increase in sales tax 12% 15% (rumored 18% starting feb 2018)
2. 3% income tax increase middle, middle-low, low , poor class. richest hondurans 2% tax break.
3. 2% tax being levied on savings account surpasses equivalent of $4,000 usd. likewise if have credit cards or overall credit, , overall credit limit surpassed $4,000 usd, taxed on that.
4. 50% militarization of police (branch called miliary police civilians) has served political oponent nabbing arm
5. no funding whatsoever healthcare or educational institutions owned state.
6. basic necesities food & living costs north of ~$690/month family 4 , income has not kept (average income $385/month), result people go debt feed (mid basic food items, no luxury/advanced items)
7. poverty rate has skyrocketed on 6% in these past 4 years.
8. unemeployment upping 34% (conservartive estimates state dept)
9. political repression
10. la louis xiv , marie antoinette extravagant spending gov't officials (private jets, yachts, etc)

these points why people want him out , voted en massé left-center (more center) oponent salvador nasralla. now, why people angry have taken capital city, port city , various roadways in country? election fraud.

of monday, 61.4% of ballots in, salvador had 45.71% vote , president had 40.12%. statistically, there no way of catching up, let alone beating salvador (something people, , myself want). however, past 4 days, election officials have been entering electoral system, ballots favor president. hence, each hour margin between both candidates decreased until today when have president 80% of country hates (several non-political related polling stats) winning 1%. ballots or registar forms benefit opposition have been thrown out , several registar forms in system not match physical ones on record done on sunday. not match show high percentage towards sitting president. ones match favor heavily opposition.

rant? situtation has yielded nothing turmoil , anger in people. doubt future of country , many business owners struggling because people without money feed themselves. frustrating seeing countrymen/women being tear gassed defending rights , voice of 1 country.

then, after long read, can @ least have glimmer rant about.

 

thanks insight, hasn't been portrayed through mainstream media, surprise, surprise. takes revolution achieve genuine change, , thing in day , age revolution can achieved via digital media sharing rest of world , in peaceful way, if people choose method of getting word out what's occurring. having other organisations being part of election process wise move, step in, acknowledging , investigating irregularities.
