How can you keep more than one MacBook in sync?

okay, have 15" macbook pro 'powerhouse', , used cpu heavy tasks video editing, zwift, etc. find little cumbersome carry everywhere, though, stays @ home.

have 12" macbook although underpowered, take out don't cpu heavy away home. writing, internet, mail, etc.

thinking perhaps 13" specced out machine middle ground, not financially viable sell both machines, , i'm not sure 13" powerful enough of heavier tasks 15" does.

use icloud keep in sync, find keeping 2 laptops more of hassle else , there icloud can do. keeping both itunes (music) libraries same, downloaded apps , open windows issue.

how other users keep more 1 machine in sync. tips? great if there way have same windows pop on both machines, example, when come home after working on 12" day, can open 15" , have same windows there , continue left off.

 

i have same setup (15" mbp + 12" mb). think keeping files in sync sufficient. opening windows again seems minor problem. more annoying programs (e.g., microsoft office), not allow modification in open files. so, if have word open on both machines same document, that's trouble. that's software developer's problem. works fine example pages.
