MacBook Pro 2017 - A bit of balance

since uses phrase "you'll hear negatives online", thought i'd provide bit of balance experience has been new macbook pro 2017 13" (maxed out).

bought machine on friday (so know it's days) after months of reading issues , talking myself in , out of purchase. thought time buy take advantage of apple's extended returns period on christmas (if issues arise have until january 8th return it).

the keyboard
no issues @ mine out of box. typing quick , accurate. no stuck keys. decent travel. not loud. i'm aware "...yet" situation, i'll sure report if crop up.

the screen
no dead pixels. no banding. bright , crisp, , no obvious pink tints or anything. impressed actually.

the trackpad
yeah, it's big. spent 2 hours on sunday typing scripts, followed couple of hours in photoshop, , didn't experience out of ordinary. palm rejection seems good.

the touchbar
took bit of getting used (mainly volume , brightness) can see useful. in word or mail example, being able format text straight touch bar. or in photoshop, being able select of used tools. slight negative find gets quite warm... not hot, quite warm when computer charging and/or doing intensive. granted not ever used function keys, don't miss them, , can access them if ever need them.

the speakers
far best i've heard in laptop size... period.

the battery life
seems ok far. not great.. not horrendous. got 7 hours out of on sunday word processing, photoshop, safari bunch of tabs open, , spotify of time.

negatives
real negatives i've experienced far are:

1) can't plug headphones iphone 7+ (but that's more apple's stupid decision remove port phones , force lightning headphones on everyone)

2) ports issue seem little stupid, thankfully don't plug computers (other headphones , chargers).

3) charger supplied laptop ungrounded 1 (as found out in thread), in situations, when charging laptop, can feel slight buzzing on chassis. requires £19 grounded apple cable fix that. thankfully it's not defective, worried, , it's common on macbook pros style chargers.

summary
know it's days (a grand total of 10 hours of usage), i'm impressed far. haven't found of "big" issues affecting unit (as things stand), , build quality, speed , style excellent. plus space grey lovely in person. wanted tell people may on fence buying one, they're not bad internet forums / youtube comments make believe. in fact, they're good. there's been teething problems them, dare (touch wood), maybe of have been ironed out now?...

 

basically apple continue sell 2015 version, macbook airs, retina-macbooks, , 2017 pro's. they're macs, , in own light. if want 2015 go it, it's great machine , of use why sell it. if want latest , fastest chips 2017, again great computer. lot of complaints subjective (oversized trackpad, 'clicky' keys, 'the touchbar...', etc.) , whilst there genuine issues keys becoming stuck, largely overrated , bloated people seem want hate it. i've not had issues mine last year, clean few times month, that's (looking @ backlighting it's full of dust, looks little galaxy in there, 'a small amount of dust' not sufficient stick them.). wish people buy mac , happy instead of obsessing on criticising other peoples purchase, don't understand peoples need tell people have wrong one, , right 1 one have... yes there's lot of negative, , if listen you'd pressed thinking these issues started 2016 version. yet help/support forum has existed 20 years? pretty sure people have been having 'issues' macs lot longer 2016+, regardless of you'll hear (on note i'd take stuck key resolves air on failed gpu, delaminated display, swollen battery, or other critical things day!).

anyway enjoy computer, buy proper headphones start (come on, earpods suck ). , keep eye out usb-c cables replace old ones, makes life better - grabbed 'refurbished' usb-c -> lightning on amazon £5 last year, pretty sure open box return, wouldn't spending £30 on apple wanting!
