No Chime, Yes the volume in the sound panel is on


i have 2012 macbook pro micron 512 ssd , running high sierra works fine not chime. everywhere online "no chime" conversations accompanied startup issues or elementary issue of no knowing how operate sound preference pane. neither of these issue.
computer starts normally, no chime.
pram , smc reset not nor disc repair.

buy , sell macbook pros , use them extensively before selling them warranty , repair them needed. have been doing years , never seen issue. have seen occasional strange boot behavior. once in great while boot process exhibit aberrant behavior. 1 time booted desktop , returned apple , progress bar before returning desktop. isolated incident , boots properly. mention wonder if chime issue might harbinger of gpu issue (as veteran repair people know) singular problem apple laptops.
 

is 15" mbp? don't think gpu problem common 13" intel video.

had 13" 2011 not chime booted properly. associated sound worked perfectly, never chimed. happens lion, sierra, , high sierra.

have tried different os versions?

com.apple.DiskManagement.disenter error -119930878

here's odd one! 1 of our 2015 macbook air notebooks in office crashed , became unbootable after user clicked high sierra upgrade sierra on it. tried sorts of things working again, including both internet recovery , regular recovery. each time, partially install high sierra , stop error saying, "macos not installed on computer", followed specific error code mentioned in message subject line. have identically configured air (8gb ram, 512gb ssd, core i7) upgraded sierra high sierra without problems @ all, should work! thing able problem machine installing sierra usb thumb drive. did that, of user's data accessible again (nothing lost, thankfully!) , working normally. tried running high sierra upgrade again fresh app store download, hoping original issue stupid user powering computer off in middle of upgrade process. nope! exact same error , resulting unbootable machine. computer passes apple hardware tests flying colors , seems fine
