Mid 2009 MacBook Pro


hi mr,

have 15 inch mid 2009 macbook pro (4gb ram, 256 gb ssd, core 2 duo 2.53ghz). end of line in terms of official macos releases machine el capitan. given el capitan 2 releases old, i'm assuming apple not updating or patching further , i'm considering options it.

use kids today , think machine son learn coding on. @ school, use windows , have functioning dual boot install of windows 10 installed , got working trial , error unsupported bootcamp drivers mbp. windows 10 has updated latest creators update.

considering options, install linux on it. guys think el cap , when eol?
 

you can hack firmware allow install later os versions. internet search “dosdude1 firmware” , should started down road if like. wouldn’t go past sierra if @ possible though. high sierra reformat partition apfs, killing ability windows see files on mac partition.

here's odd one! 1 of our 2015 macbook air notebooks in office crashed , became unbootable after user clicked high sierra upgrade sierra on it. tried sorts of things working again, including both internet recovery , regular recovery. each time, partially install high sierra , stop error saying, "macos not installed on computer", followed specific error code mentioned in message subject line. have identically configured air (8gb ram, 512gb ssd, core i7) upgraded sierra high sierra without problems @ all, should work! thing able problem machine installing sierra usb thumb drive. did that, of user's data accessible again (nothing lost, thankfully!) , working normally. tried running high sierra upgrade again fresh app store download, hoping original issue stupid user powering computer off in middle of upgrade process. nope! exact same error , resulting unbootable machine. computer passes apple hardware tests flying colors , seems fin...
