hi all,
typically have used google photos, have apple tv apple blocks/doesn't allow google photos app, considering using photo library.. have couple of questions.
have ton of photos on google photos, assuming have 20gb of photos, how storage thumbnails/smaller size take on phone , macbook?
how work large 4k footage? stored locally on phone, macbook vs cloud?
thanks,
i don't have 4k videos, cannot comment specifically, far aware icloud photo library not sort of resolution reduction or other modifications original photos , videos.
far how local vs cloud storage works - in preference pane of photos.app, if choose "optimize mac storage", originals stored in icloud , local app tries smart caching low-quality thumbnails/previews, , dynamically downloads content skim through library requesting it. right icloud tells me have 36.4gb of photos , videos in icloud photo library, , finder.app tells me photo library size on disk is.... 38.4gb. huh. maybe "optimize" doesn't since have free space (60+gb free). "about mac" storage tab says takes 10gb though - might situation finder reporting size of of images/videos if downloaded, , storage tab reporting actual capacity taken on disk.
on phone, have 12gb free , same icloud photo library reports using 14.48gb of space.
may depend on mix of photos , videos, if guess "space optimized" option takes 1/4 1/3 of total space on local disk, think in ballpark.
