hi, looking advice/opinions please.
work in creative cloud print design/presentations , have started using fcp x on 2016 macbook pro 15 (i7, radeon pro 460). hook lg 5k (and 27" 4k when want more space).
find fcp x slows down considerably when denoising footage, making unbearable or not fun.
i'm learning fcp x i've taken on big video project (perhaps foolishly that's day). wondering, if:
a) hold out imac pro (i'd stick base model comes 32gb ram , 1tb ssd).
or
b) current top end 5k imac 1tb ssd , buy ram crucial.
there's £1700 price difference , i'm wondering if i'll regret imac pro being overkill? curious if else has lg 5k hooked imac. know lusting after pro after shelling out £3k mbp supposedly 4k smoothly, i'm kind of hesitant jump onto normal imac anyway might not worth price/speed difference on current setup.
(apologies if has been posted before couldn't find it.)
cheers.
the gfx card in top end imac quite good. believe fcp using de-noise footage. there other things quicksync make 2017 imac faster @ encoding h264.
considerably more capable mbp. laptops throttle hard , quite useless cpu or gpu intensive.
gfx card in imac pro considerably better, should faster. uses workstation xeon chips have traditionally run @ lower clock speed , slower tasks - although generation seem on par i7, should good.
£1700 lot consider. returned 2017 imac because 4 cores wasn't enough , throttling still there. although doubt issue fcp or adobe cc. i'm hoping base spec imac pro + more ram suitable.
if top spec 2017 imac 512 ssd , user upgraded ram works decent investment resale value still in 2 - 3 years.
suspect re-sale value of imac pro drop more.
