MBPro built-in display black, external display works fine


hey,

wife's 2011 mbp has problem. connected external monitor, works fine (using post this), built-in laptop display black. have done restart stuff reset pram, smc, disconnected everything, &etc. there absolutely nothing showing on built-in display, no backlight or logo.

have not opened case yet, since have feeling sort of software issue. can think of other non-invasive fixes, or should go ahead , open case check video cable?

new info: wife says began after laptop unplugged , ran battery down near zero.

com.apple.DiskManagement.disenter error -119930878

here's odd one! 1 of our 2015 macbook air notebooks in office crashed , became unbootable after user clicked high sierra upgrade sierra on it. tried sorts of things working again, including both internet recovery , regular recovery. each time, partially install high sierra , stop error saying, "macos not installed on computer", followed specific error code mentioned in message subject line. have identically configured air (8gb ram, 512gb ssd, core i7) upgraded sierra high sierra without problems @ all, should work! thing able problem machine installing sierra usb thumb drive. did that, of user's data accessible again (nothing lost, thankfully!) , working normally. tried running high sierra upgrade again fresh app store download, hoping original issue stupid user powering computer off in middle of upgrade process. nope! exact same error , resulting unbootable machine. computer passes apple hardware tests flying colors , seems fine
