Second monitor for late 2013 MBP

have late 2013 mbp, still works great today day bought despite being used every day 4 , half years. specs are

processor 2.4ghz i5
memory 8gb 1600 mhz ddr3
graphics intel iris 1536 mb

i'm finding i'm struggling work doing on , benefit additional screen, have no idea i'm looking for.

21 - 24" should suffice, have read mbp can support 4k monitors not sure make go for, screen resolution should after or connection for. amazon has hundreds 5* reviews starting @ £70 going upwards of £300. 4k, high contrast etc.

software developer have in code view or running email in 1 screen other split between code , output views.

willing lend hand tech specs left behind 10 years ago?

Other Unknown error

here's odd one! 1 of our 2015 macbook air notebooks in office crashed , became unbootable after user clicked high sierra upgrade sierra on it. tried sorts of things working again, including both internet recovery , regular recovery. each time, partially install high sierra , stop error saying, "macos not installed on computer", followed specific error code mentioned in message subject line. have identically configured air (8gb ram, 512gb ssd, core i7) upgraded sierra high sierra without problems @ all, should work! thing able problem machine installing sierra usb thumb drive. did that, of user's data accessible again (nothing lost, thankfully!) , working normally. tried running high sierra upgrade again fresh app store download, hoping original issue stupid user powering computer off in middle of upgrade process. nope! exact same error , resulting unbootable machine. computer passes apple hardware tests flying colors , seems fin...
