Old Dead iMac....use MBP to erase and reinstall Yosemite??


i have mid 2007 imac wanting erase , restore...and give 95 year old grandpa.

have current backup through time machine external (i assume...it says it's current imacs current behavior has me doubting can trust it)

person outlined situation i'm having not making through startup. apple logo screen bar inching forward. gets halfway in 10 minutes...then computer shuts down.

need accessing unusable imac ...by way of mid 2014 mbp running high sierra.....so can 3 things:

wipe clean, reinstall yosemite, , give grandpa.

can help?

you need bootable external drive, usb or firewire, loaded compatible operating system, or installation media compatible os (since latest os won't run on it). if can boot external media (installation disks or bootable external drive has full os install on it), can run install against it.

best of luck! i'm dependent on internet recovery now, not sure recover of old gear via dvd anymore!

com.apple.DiskManagement.disenter error -119930878

here's odd one! 1 of our 2015 macbook air notebooks in office crashed , became unbootable after user clicked high sierra upgrade sierra on it. tried sorts of things working again, including both internet recovery , regular recovery. each time, partially install high sierra , stop error saying, "macos not installed on computer", followed specific error code mentioned in message subject line. have identically configured air (8gb ram, 512gb ssd, core i7) upgraded sierra high sierra without problems @ all, should work! thing able problem machine installing sierra usb thumb drive. did that, of user's data accessible again (nothing lost, thankfully!) , working normally. tried running high sierra upgrade again fresh app store download, hoping original issue stupid user powering computer off in middle of upgrade process. nope! exact same error , resulting unbootable machine. computer passes apple hardware tests flying colors , seems fine
