You need an email address to use Facetime on WiFi only, right?

i getting nieces own ipads (wifi models), , 1 of main reasons can facetime grandmother. however, children, neither 1 of them has own email address , mother has been against creating email addresses them in past because believes they're young.

have feeling parents want use email addresses kids, i'm guessing won't work since if grandmother tries facetime kids, end facetiming parents instead.

there way around this? it's wifi model there no phone number use.

they each have own email address - don't need able send , receive email.
