Does Restoring a Time Machine Backup Repair the OS?


ok understand can reinstall mac os command + r menu , os reinstalled without touching (we hope) files unless erase disk first.

however, if choose restore time machine backup? disk repair or os repair performed or clone of last backup? corruption in time machine backup not repaired rather put on corrupt state?


recommended troubleshooting procedure reinstall macos , restore timemachine backup?
 

restoring time machine backup not perform repairs on drive. full time machine restore that... restores data , technically it's not clone. cloning software should used if need clone of drive. carbon copy cloner , superduper 2 popular cloning apps.

troubleshooting procedure should use depends on problem. time machine great restoring files, folders, 1 hour ago, 1 day ago, or 1 month ago.... gist. cloning software restore entire drive clone latest performed.

here's odd one! 1 of our 2015 macbook air notebooks in office crashed , became unbootable after user clicked high sierra upgrade sierra on it. tried sorts of things working again, including both internet recovery , regular recovery. each time, partially install high sierra , stop error saying, "macos not installed on computer", followed specific error code mentioned in message subject line. have identically configured air (8gb ram, 512gb ssd, core i7) upgraded sierra high sierra without problems @ all, should work! thing able problem machine installing sierra usb thumb drive. did that, of user's data accessible again (nothing lost, thankfully!) , working normally. tried running high sierra upgrade again fresh app store download, hoping original issue stupid user powering computer off in middle of upgrade process. nope! exact same error , resulting unbootable machine. computer passes apple hardware tests flying colors , seems fine
