9.3.5 iPad 2 Resurrection

i felt guilty ipad 2 under bed; owned such short span of time, before became "unusable." ios 6 lagged, ios 7 bad (but better iphone 4 on same,) , ios 8 slaughtered it. see many of these pos stations nowadays (at food trucks , such) , they're horribly laggy , crashy in role. updated thing new ios releases comedy. crashy, lagging mess.

maybe year ago tried few of "standard" things (reduced motion, clear multitasking apps...) bs. decided make more concerted effort working; guess what? it's not lightning fast, it's usable; i'm sure mom or grandma use no prob. in fact, can use basic tasks such web browsing, email, pages editing, streaming video , audio interface recording guitar tracks (none of possible while back. couldn't scroll or type unless wanted see result 30 seconds later.)

i'm pretty alarmed; safari operates , scrolls remarkable smoothness (but don't open many tabs!) more complex websites suffer crashing immediately, not subjecting me lag; can pop safari right open. gestures (back/view tabs/app switch in general) smooth well. battery still lasts forever.

outlined in bold best changes, below; notably didn't restore or start scratch. more embarrassing change made best practical effect clearing safari cache. never did, because there 5 websites regularly check , leave open (and have, since got in 2012) figured wasn't if had million tabs open but... clearing once , keeping web navigation 1 tab @ time sped up. deleted unused apps, although it's still 8 gigs full (out of 16.)

don't have spend more money on new 1 of course i'm sort of worried getting hacked...

-wallpaper: exists
-messages/facetime: signed out
-automatic downloads: no
-location services: off
-diagnostics: unsent
-ad tracking: limit
-keyboard: autocorrect off, no shortcut/predictive (big improvement)
-safari: no tabs/favorites bar visible, pop-ups blocked, no search/safari suggestion or quick website search/preload (big improvement,) autofill off, "do not track," block cookies
-javascript: on (improves website performance)
-news: no story previews
-icloud photo sharing/library: off
-push: full off, manual fetch mail , push icloud (in reality doesn't seem make huge impact... i'm not sure "push" icloud since don't have email accounts synced it)

 

yeah mini 1 , 4s terrible on ios 9 thnk god replaced them otherwise have been dead
