Activating a Verizon iPhone X to use for AT&T. Many confusing posts!!

hey guys sorry redundancy here researching of last night figure out how this. i'm sure other people in same boat!

purchased verizon iphone x apple online using wife's credentials, accounts paid , paid full price phone. i'm getting conflicting posts on should activate , use phone on at&t account.

people saying leave verizon sim in phone, activate the same credentials , put at&t sim in there. sounds else said wife's current phone stop working because have activated "upgrade" phone sim. true?

person said put at&t sim in there beginning , activate phone using verizon credentials phone locked at&t. can request unlock code.

want activate phone , use at&t sim without disrupting wife's service. possible?
