Time Machine vs Cloning

what difference between using time machine backup computer , creating "clone"?

have never used time machine , don't understand advantages offers over, carbon copy cloner (ccc).

thanks.

time machine itterative, means doesn't make single clone. instead, keeps track of differences. let's backup 300 gig drive. first time, makes clone in sparsebundle. delete 5 files , add 3 new. time machine add 3 files backup , keep deleted files well, separating backups dates keeping old files still exist in both dates newer 1 aliasses old backup doesn't take 2x space.
can extract single old version of file or entire drive or anywhere in between moment tima machine has been running. can't boot time machine backup though, since structure isn't same drive itself. holds data isn't structured drive itself, whereas clone name suggests, intents , purposes identical source.
