Boot MacOS on external disk - default

hello!
have qestion.

have imac usb external disk macos high sierra. ( no apfs ).
when power imac, see black screen. after 10 seconds, apple logo appears , booting external usb disk. works fine need boot default external usb ( save 10 seconds ;p )

internal disk clean - no macos on drive.

can change in terminal or other app setting?

in settings> start disk> have external disk. ( macintoshhd macos 10.13.2).

try going startup disk preference pane , re-designating external drive "boot drive".

guess "short delay" after press power-on button going "the norm".
imac first has check hardware integrity, , "poll buses" find external boot drive. , then... start booting it.

i've been booting , running 2012 mac mini external drive 5 years now.
works fine...
