I'm impressed with this sub-$300 laptop (Chuwi 12.3)

there hundred or more sub-$300 laptops out there , crap in opinion. story same cheap laptop having of these problems:
  • bulky case made cheap plastic
  • tiny storage filled malware/crapware/adware/spyware/trialware
  • so little memory windows can barely out of own way
  • a sub-1080p display (typically 1366x768) makes workspace insanely cramped
  • a tn screen washed out colors, poor viewing angles, , poor brightness
  • a 16:9 ratio display meant widescreen tv , gaming, not productivity
i saw review (ironically negative review) of chuwi lapbook 12.3 , decided buy one. although review negative, things bothered reviewer not important me, importantly saw budget laptop addressed things hated budget laptops.

stands out:
  • a stiff, machined aluminum case minimalist styling cues , premium "feel"
  • loaded windows 10, necessary drivers, , nothing else - can't begin tell how better of first impression experience compared every 1 else's "crapware assault"
  • 6gb of ram instead of typical budget laptop's 4gb means have breathing room
  • an internal m.2 slot storage expansion
  • no weird off-brand chips, example wifi well-supported intel dual band ac , storage toshiba
  • a super common 12vdc, 2a, 2.5mm barrel plug power supply, can buy power supplies $9 on amazon
  • and important of all, glorious ips display:
    • tons of room: 2736 x 1824
    • razor sharp pixel density: 267ppi
    • a great aspect ratio productivity , web browsing: 3x2
    • bright: 420nits (and evenly lit, not splotchy)
    • color accurate: 99% adobe srgb , 77% adobe rgb (after calibration)
    • and it's matte screen, sensible people prefer ;)

i'm not going pretend it's perfect. there still many compromises keep under $300. it's these compromises far, far less important me serious problem crappy screen.

here compromises:
  • slow celeron cpu - budget laptops have better intel "core" cpus
  • slow hd500 igpu - par course, have better igpu
  • slow storage (emmc based) - budget laptops have normal ssds
(if you're part of "ssd life" crowd, keep in mind there m.2 slot.)
  • ac/dc brick adapter has eu or uk plug choice, customers throw in eu-to-us plug adapter
  • everyone going usb-c charging away power bricks altogether, step behind
  • old-school huge bezels
  • sub-par touchpad no software, default windows mouse adjustments , cannot customize gestures
  • power, backslash, , delete buttons in weird locations
  • the usb ports upside down
anyway, if happen have same priorities , preferences do, think you'd happy budget laptop. here positive review article:

, fair, here negative review article:
https://www.laptopmag.com/reviews/laptops/chuwi-lapbook-123

, detailed article anandtech:

if prefer ms surface-like device, make laptop in surface-like package. it's called chuwi surbook.

fwiw, bought mine $289 shipped.

chuwi budget laptop company focusses on what's important. put same ****** cpu in of make, , instead put great displays in em. because know if buy computer this, you're not expecting groundbreaking performance, , matters more can stand looking @ waiting few seconds things load
