WiFi 5.8 working half speed

hi, couple of days ago hired new 50mb internet service (i had 6mb connection company). gave me technicolor modem 2.4ghz , 5.8ghz @ same time (this new world me!)

have modem in living room in ground floor beside tv, 50mb under speedtest.net test works perfect on smarttv, mobile phone (beside modem); on studio in 1st floor have imac late 2009 (at 7mt distance modem, no wall , no doors between). 5.8ghz download speed reaches 22mb maximum (very similar speed if switch 2.4ghz).

thought distance issue, because mobile phone speed connection on sutdio 25mb) , clear doubt connected imac beside modem (ground floor), surprisedly download speed same (about 22mb), no major changes carrying computer beside modem (my old samsung mobile phone can detect both wifi , works perfect not imac)

couldn't believe because if distance issue i'd ask technicians move modem 1st floor beside computer, looks not distance issue, connected modem via ethernet , worked perfectly: speedtest.net got 50mb , little more! (the ethernet cable 1.5mt long)

wonder happening, solution ethernet cable living room computer on 1st floor i'm not sure if long cable maintain speed connection because i'll have pass ethernet cable inside walls , trajectory might more 15 mts long, have option plan c.

plan b move modem 1st floor , keep beside imac using ethernet.
ideal have 50mb speed connection using wifi!

happening? imac dated??? there kind of setting problem? el capitan problem??

ps: have windows 7 (bootcamp), can detect both signals can't connect internet!!, secondary , sure i'll create post, 50mb wifi on osx more important.

 

i believe technicolor more "a modem". it's got router in well.

combined modem/router called "residential gateway".
it's easy tell them apart.
modem has 1 ethernet connector on (intended go computer or router).
residential gateway have 4 (or more) ethernet ports.

if (except imac) working fine modem/gateway placed near tv, i'd leave there , connect imac via ethernet cable -- providing isn't difficult so.

opinion only, desktop computer imac, wired ethernet connection "the better way go"...
