Best source for audio in?

i want record bass guitar garageband through audio input on 2011 imac.

have ampeg pf800 bass head have several options , wondering folks think best approach be.

plug bass directly in audio in. (bass has passive pickups.)

or use 1 of following outputs on head:

1) headphone output. manual says it's "mix of line level signals reaching amplifier."

2) xlr line out. balanced. has switch post or pre eq. has switch mic or line level. has switch ground/lift.

3) fx send jack. unbalanced. post eq

4) pre-amp out. manual says "direct post master preamp output use external power amp."

in advance tips or advice.

you'd want set "line out".

need decent audio interface.
focusrite 2i2, or perhaps presonus "audiobox"...
