i purchased apple tv 4th generation samsung hd tv (720p) have in bedroom. yesterday watched first movie on ("mother!") rented itunes movies. expecting better quality resolution @ least 1 on cable tv provider's hd channels, no... found grainy, standard. maybe something's wrong settings? didn't change anything, it's default. or movie itself? watch netflix , prime video compare later on today.
there's lot of variables not shared in post. did rent hd version of movie or sd version? tv connected directly tv or going through else might using sd settings? connections via hdmi cables or else?
visited relatives had several 1080p hd sets in home. picture looks poor. took @ connections , cable company had connected box rg6 cable instead of hdmi. thus, watching analog sd video on hd set. swap cable hdmi , picture became hd.
it's possible that particular movie shot in such way higher resolution doesn't make good. experiments netflix & prime should give enough of content multi-sampling find well-shot video. might try movie trailers great in hd. if have iphone, shoot video @ 1080p or 4k, drop itunes , stream tv via tv- should good.
if happen have blu ray player , @ least 1 movie disc, hook , @ of movie. hop itunes rental store, locate same movie , watch (free) trailer see if picture looks comparable.
