CES 2018: Alpine Electronics Reveals 9-Inch Aftermarket CarPlay System That 'Hovers' in Front of Dash

alpine electronics @ ces today unveiled new aftermarket carplay system "hover" design floats in front of vehicle's dashboard instead of being embedded directly it. company said ilx-f309 "doesn't require custom installation," professional still needed remove existing infotainment systems before installing ilx-f309.

alpine's receiver includes 9-inch touch screen , fit in "a variety of vehicles." 9-inch screen larger average 6-to-7-inch screen size of many other aftermarket carplay systems, , alpine pointed out hover design bring larger display vehicles restricted dashboards smaller form factors.

what's reasoning behind pricing ? wouldn't make more sense mount , use ipad mini ?
