external hard drive for 10.7.5

i have older macbook air i've have since 2012 or so. have used backup phone while , mac storage full. take of information off of computer , put on hard drive can update of software on mac make more usable. on, use hard drive storage instead of using computer, keep running best can. took computer best buy , asked in had hard drives compatible 10.7.5 , guy said need find 1 online. have suggestion hard drive need for?

 

what told @ best buy inaccurate. usb hard drive of brand work computer. if not mac-labeled drive (for example, products g-technology mac-oriented), want/need format drive using disk utility hfs+. easy process do.

brand perspective, if plan carry drive on , use storing files access lot, suggest purchasing external ssd instead of external hdd. ssds faster, more durable, , (most importantly) impact resistant. can survive normal wear , tear of mobile usage can damage or destroy hard disk drives. example samsung t5.

alternatively, if have 13-inch macbook air, use transcend jetdrive lite add 256 gb of internal flash storage through flush-mounting sd card insert, meaning not have carry around external hard drive everywhere go.

once begin storing files on external drive, want hard drive in addition mac's ssd (so if 1 fails not lose of data.) if using time machine external drive, can set time machine backup both of these drives.
