i've been using 2011 15 inch mbp (2.2ghz i7) 7 years now. worked great 5 years , noticed slowdowns. last year upgraded ram 4gb 16gb , many of performance problems disappeared. overall, i'm happy computer , serving me well.
i'm in grad school , have opportunity purchase new mbp. have make purchase in 2017. tonight, looking around geekbench , noticed compared 2011 mbp model, 2017 13 inch mbp (3.1ghz touch bar) scored bit higher in single-core, lower in multi-core. because 2011 has quad core processor, whereas new machine has dual core?
principle uses of computer reading papers, writing manuscripts, analyzing data, , making figures. watch netflix , youtube on mbp. safari, messages, word, powerpoint, excel, endnote, preview, , illustrator apps use most. don't play video games. store photos, , edit them using photos.
notice performance improvements 2017 mbp? understand geekbench scores artificial marker of performance, , that's why i'm curious hear people's experiences these machines. have hdd in machine, new ones have ssds - imagine have performance advantage.
thanks.
you see huge difference due ssd.
