Question about Activity rings / Apple Health on watchOS 4

i had aw series 0 brief 4 months, on watchos 1.0 , sold it. christmas wife getting series 3 , i'll using series 3 come new years. have few questions...

1. on watchos 1 problem if weren't wearing aw did carry iphone (which counts steps) or wore brand device synced apple health (like garmin watch) nice cumulative total of steps , data in apple health (which smart enough blend multiple devices in priority order, , doesn't double count) apple watch never wind of cumulative total , steps shown on watch low , activity rings wouldn't fill. if didn't while wearing watch watch wouldn't count it. have seen mixed messages either in watchos 2 or 3 corrected , apple watch displays synced totals apple health , uses them activity ring credit. true? perfect example of use case lets choose take watch off mow lawn (don't want scratched , count can inaccurate without arm swing) put iphone in pocket counts steps.

2. never used many 3rd party apps , no 3rd party fitness apps in watchos 1.0 because weren't native , had no access such fundamental apis heart rate monitor. know has been fixed. question if lets running workout in 3rd party app know data wouldn't display run in apple workout app steps / time etc. @ least count towards activity rings , synced apple health? believe i'm looking confirmation.

bonus question...

3. surprised see none other dcrainmaker (the source reviews on electronic fitness gadgets) https://www.dcrainmaker.com/2017/11/apple-watch-series3-cellular-fitness-sport-review.html has said though series 2 & 3 has internal gps/glosnass watch still not use internal gps if carrying iphone on run synced via bluetooth. i'm sorta stunned because in days series 0 (with no gps) found track using iphone's gps left desired chalked being tucked away in belt. assumed leveraging internal gps antenna in watch tracks more accurate , detailed if need leave iphone behind or turn off sync apple watch force use gps thats bummer. true?? there setting tell use internal gps? how has experience been of watch accuracy on outdoor runs?

thanks!

it depends on app. if you’re using apple workout app, it’ll use iphone’s gps if it’s connected aw. other apps behave differently. nrc (aka nike run club) use gps of device used start run. use app called ismoothrun , can select either gps.
