Mail.App kills macOS

hi,

since upgrading high sierra (mac mini 2012, i7, 16gb, 500gb crucial ssd), i've had huge amount of problems.

i've tracked down fact mail.app (and/or spotlight) seems hang @ point.
well, doesn't quite hang, gets slower , slower , ps(1) shows in "uninterruptible wait".

i'm unable quit, force-quit or kill -9 it. can't reboot properly.
it's shown in state "e", means "the process trying exit."

result, reboot have hard power-cycle power-button (thank god still fitted power-buttons then...)

have 1 million emails on own imap server.

maybe it's spotlight choking on amount of mails, don't know.
had 0 problems on el capitan (but lack of security updates bit annoying).
i'm not sure, realized how many daemons , services macos runs in background these days...

not running mail.app has helped getting timemachine backups running again.

it's huge problem, mail.app , it's powerful search function.
