hello,
have mid 2010 mac pro (macpro5,1), running high sierra, in need of metal support graphics development purposes (not gaming). what's current state of graphic cards metal support?
far i've understood, limitations posted apple of not supporting models before 2012 due own configurations of mac pro never shipping compatible graphics card, it's not due hw of mac pro itself, or artificial limitations on software side.
i'm running 4 displays ati radeon hd 5770 1 gb card + nvidia geforce 8500 gt 256 mb, neither of supports metal far can tell.
as development purposes, options have cards stable/have stable drivers?
amd vs nvidia?
do these cards need flashing of custom firmware/roms?
is there card give me same 3 outputs have ati radeon hd 5770, while supporting metal?
the current amd cards use apple's built in drivers, more convenient having keep nvidia's web drivers updated every time there's update operating system. alone steer me toward amd card unless needed run required cuda. neither nvidia or amd cards require flashed rom, don't show video until drivers load, can't things computer require boot screens.

here's odd one! 1 of our 2015 macbook air notebooks in office crashed , became unbootable after user clicked high sierra upgrade sierra on it. tried sorts of things working again, including both internet recovery , regular recovery. each time, partially install high sierra , stop error saying, "macos not installed on computer", followed specific error code mentioned in message subject line. have identically configured air (8gb ram, 512gb ssd, core i7) upgraded sierra high sierra without problems @ all, should work! thing able problem machine installing sierra usb thumb drive. did that, of user's data accessible again (nothing lost, thankfully!) , working normally. tried running high sierra upgrade again fresh app store download, hoping original issue stupid user powering computer off in middle of upgrade process. nope! exact same error , resulting unbootable machine. computer passes apple hardware tests flying colors , seems fin...
hi there! long time reader, first time poster! wondering if might able me out question. 2013 mbp w/ retina met unceremonious end courtesy of water damage. cost repair far worthwhile purchased replacement instead. however, turned out ssd (768gb!) appears ok. guy @ genius bar suggested third party external casing use (a) access data (since said apple charges $90cad or transfer over) , (b) use ssd external drive in future. kind enough remove ssd me. i found below option: https://eshop.macsales.com/item/owc/mau3envoypro/ i'm wondering if there other less expensive alternatives? couldn't find else online. owc enclosure not outrageously expensive i'm looking thrifty since don't plan on making use of it. thank much! i in similar situation, 2013 500gb blade ssd after buying used rmbp mid 2015. noticed ssd installed 2013, complained , got later faster ssd plus keep ...
